Mary Fries paints with traditional and slow-drying acrylic, acrylic markers, ink, charcoal, and oil pastel. Fries (pronounced Frees) paints as a call to awakening—to inspire reflection and change. Influences include Roberto Matta, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Joan Miro, Frida Kahlo, and Philip Guston.

Fries’s pursuits also includes mathematics and computer science curriculum development, philosophy of consciousness, gardening, and circus arts.
